Day to Day Run Through
For each event, depending on whether its a comp, demo or coaching, you will need to follow a
certain procedure between the actual activities. Use this as a guide to Coordinate everything
1. Make sure every person participating has completed a WAIVER FORM. If they have
done this before they should be wearing an armband on the day.
2. Complete the RISK ASSESSMENT FORM.
3. Run your event! Enjoy the day.
4. Make sure if its hot everyone is having regular breaks for water.
5. When its over, fill out the EVENT COMPLETION FORM. remember you need at least 1
parent or participant to provide feedback.
6. Put a post on Social Media
7. Pack up and head home.
Rather than having people come down with waivers filled out each week, once someone has
filled out the initial waiver form they will receive an Armband to wear to show they are registered.
They will be registered for 5 years, and depending on the colour is what year it expires.
1. Light Blue expires Dec 2020
2. Green expires Dec 2021
3. White expires Dec 2022
Generally you will only see light blue for quite some time. You can also keep some with you
should people fill out waivers on the day.
Coaching will be split into 2 groups and assessed by you at each program.
Classifying people into under 18s and Opens is how the different coaching ways will be
Always position yourself in the middle of your group. As you cant control where everyone goes
but you can move where you need to be.
If you turn up to an event and there is 100 participants and 2 coaches over 3 hours, try splitting
them into groups of 20 people for 30 minutes each.
Use your best judgement in these scenarios.
When you have mixed groups of skill level, try splitting them into beginner and intermediate
between the coaches.
DO NOT COACH ANYONE ON A PENNY BOARD OR LONGBOARD. THEY ARE NOT
MADE FOR MODERN SKATEPARKS AND IT USUALLY WILL RESULT IN INJURY.
1. Helmet requirements. Helmets are required for all participants under 18 years and it is
recommended, but not necessary for people over 18.
when teaching beginners of all ages, start them on flatground, make sure they:
have feet on the deck bolts.
have them shuffle left to right and back and forth to get a feel for the boards movement.
make sure they keep low and knees bent as much as possible.
Before anyone uses ramps, you can teach:
Once they seem comfortable on a board, you can try:
going up a bank
kick turns on banks
rolling in on banks
(make sure you advise them to keep really low on the banks.)
Once they are comfortable on banks you can teach:
Dropping in (start with 2 hands help, then 1 hand, then no hands)
ollie fakies on banks
ollies over hips
3. Intermediates and experiencedThese people generally have a stronger understanding of skateboarding and know their tricks
and what they want to learn.
In these scenarios help them through what they want to learn but if something seems out of
reach it is best to work on something they can achieve during that lesson, and come back to the
harder trick at another time.
Safety is simple provided you follow the guides on the risk assessment and the correct coaching
The risk assessment keeps the park as a safe environment and also ensures that participants
are at minimal risk.
Provided you have the waiver forms completed and the risk assessment completed, you will
also be protected under the insurance.
