Thai Student Association in Malaysia - TSAM / สมาคมนักศึกษาไทยในประเทศมาเลเซีย
ภายใต้กำกับดูแลโดยสถานเอกอัครราชทูตไทย ณ กรุงกัวลาลัมเปอร์ ประเทศมาเลเซีย
Before the establishment of the Thai Association in Malaysia (TSAM), the Royal Thai Embassy was known as the place to assemble Thai students in several important occasions, such as Break Fasting during Ramadhan, H.M. King’s Birthday, H.M. Queen’s Birthday and etc. With these events, the students got the opportunities to interact with each other and the relationship became closer among one another, which developed to the idea to establish the Thai Student Association in Malaysia, so that it would centralize and assist the Thai students all around Malaysia for various purposes.
Officially, TSAM was established on 23rd January 2010, the first meeting to discuss on building a TSAM Model became reality, attended by the Thai student representatives from 8 Universities:
International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM)
Multimedia University (MMU)
Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM)
Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP)
Univerisiti Malaya (UM)
Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)
Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS)
Kolej Universiti Insaniah (KUIN)
After discussion, the committee did realize that this remarkable meeting was a rare chance to brainstorm on this particular matter. Therefore, the representatives from 8 universities reached the consensus to declare the establishment and sign the declaration of the TSAM:
“We, representatives of Thai students from universities in Malaysia, have the same purpose in establishing the Thai Student Association in Malaysia (TSAM), in order to enhance the integration among Thai students in various universities, in which we will strongly maintain the unity, sacrifice and devotion, and the transparency in administration with the commitment in the mutual benefits of society and the nation”, recorded by the secretary of TSAM on 23rd January 2010.
After the establishment, the co-founders transformed themselves to the first committee for the TSAM administration. The first president, Mr.Chareef Yimyai, was elected among all representatives to lead the TSAM for a first year, together with the other High Committee, consisting of Vice President I & II, Secretary and Treasurer. Then, the committee decided to divide the system into several departments
The administration and management in first year were not as smooth as expectation, as there were some difficulties in communication amongst the committee who stayed in different universities, located in different part of Malaysia. The committee made a decision to use the online meeting system to ease the urgency of tasks and make sure that the plan would be accomplished on time.
In 2011, TSAM is remarkably growing up with the commitment to all Thai students, and the leadership of the new president, Mr. Anusorn Ongart. All of the committee have a strong aim to see this organization to grow sustainably and be the real umbrella for all Thai students in Malaysia. The committee do believe that this organization can be further developed and contribute to the community. This contribution and friendship among all Thai students are the significant signs for the development of TSAM in the future.
