Founded in 2014, the Academy programme has already trained and qualified over 150 advisers, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and most importantly, professional credentials, for a successful career as a Financial Adviser.
Whether you are a graduate looking to start your career in the advice industry, a career changer or a mortgage adviser looking to expand into wealth management, we can support you.
The Academy is a community environment that provides support at each stage of the journey; from initial orientation through to graduation. It is an unlimited opportunity offering programmes for career changers, industry and non-industry recruits.
To create and implement an environment to provide structured support and mentoring to attract and enable new entrants to develop the key skills, knowledge and behaviours to become the advisers of the future and to deliver excellent client outcomes. Our Academy is open to candidates from all areas of society and for all ages and our aim is to attract a broad mix of age, race and gender, thus making the delivery and receipt of financial advice an inclusive one. My responsibilities include oversight for the entire programme, but I maintain a hands-on approach with all intakes from inception to graduation, which includes interviewing and assessing every candidate ahead of programme commencement and personally delivering key elements of the programme content throughout its duration.
Background:Aged 18, I joined the financial services industry as a unit trust administrator with a small local IFA firm. After 5 years in various roles within that business, the then Branch Manager of Allied Dunbar in Winchester encouraged me in to an adviser role. I spent 8 years running my own self-employed business, during which time I was asked on multiple occasions to coach new joiners into Allied Dunbar and, whilst I enjoyed working with clients and the value I could add to them, I found far more personal fulfilment in coaching others to do the same. I have held senior roles in regulatory oversight, recruitment, induction and the development of advisers and firms, gaining management and training experience which gave me good grounding to take overall responsibility for the design, structure and implementation of Openwork's Academy programme in 2016.
I truly believe that all advisers should have the competence and confidence to have difficult conversations with clients during the good times so that they can have good conversations with clients during the difficult times - this is never truer than when an adviser discusses the financial security of someone's family. Although I cannot impact the entire financial services industry, I can contribute towards the journey of every individual who joins the Academy in their transition into the world of financial advice. I take great pride in the programme I have built which supports candidates in their growth from an inexperienced 'new entrant' into a competent and qualified adviser.
On a personal level, my husband runs his own financial services business. We both enjoy travel and spending time with our two golden retrievers. I am an active member of local charities and raise money by attempting a physical challenge at least once a year.
