In 2018, the international consensus meeting on periprosthetic Joint Infection (PJI) was held in Philadelphia, United States. More than 650 experts from 150 societies across the world contributed to this effort. These experts discussed and voted on various aspects of care and management of periprosthetic joint infection. With knowledge capitalized from efforts by two other organizations, namely the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Musculoskeletal Infection Society the consensus meeting produced new diagnostic criteria and an algorithm for diagnosis of PJI. Based on this new criteria and algorithm we have created this application to aid in diagnosis and managing patients with painful prosthetic joints suspected of infection, regardless of their geographical location. This application works as a convenient tool to deliver expert knowledge to the patient bedside. This App has been developed to distribute the expert opinions from consensus meeting and should not be considered as a declaration of standard of care. Clinicians should exercise their knowledge and clinical acumen in making decisions related to each individual. In some circumstances, this may require implementation of care that differs from what may be suggested by this application. The ultimate decision regarding periprosthetic joint infection diagnosis must be made considering all circumstances presented by the patient and the needs and resources particular to the locality or institution. Therefore, we cannot accept any responsibility for unforeseen circumstances that might arise as a result of implementing the suggestions of this Application. Please note that the recommendations by this app do not apply to reimplantation cases.
Periprosthetic joint infection diagnosis (PJIDx) application is a calculator based on updated guidelines by 2018 international consensus meeting on periprosthetic joint infection. This calculator intended to use by healthcare professionals for diagnosing PJI following joint arthroplasty. Currently, only hip and knee joints are addressed by this calculator. App uses various clinical and biomarker findings in its algorithm. App also helps interpret genomic results obtained from MicrogenDx.
