About RGV Sector
Across 34 thousand square miles, covering 34 counties, the sector is larger than the state of South Carolina and spans 977 miles of farm to market roads in six of the most patrolled counties.
The Rio Grande Valley Sector is located on the south Texas border and is covered by nine Border Patrol stations, three checkpoints, multiple vessels and aircraft from the Office of Air and Marine. In the RGV, Border Patrol re-enforces the operations of 13 international bridges, three airports and several seaports. More than 3-thousand agents coordinate intelligence, plan, and support border security and public safety initiatives. RGV Sector works with over 20 police departments in small municipalities scattered throughout the region to secure our border and protect our communities.
JTF-W South Texas Corridor
The JTF-W STC, through a unity of effort, integrates intelligence, leverages communities of interest, pursues enhanced coordination with national and international partners, and conducts joint targeted operations to create an environment that disrupts and degrades illicit networks’ ability to operate.
Background: Created in Fiscal year 2012, as a CBP initiative, at the direction of the Commissioner. At its inception, the then South Texas Campaign was designed to be a proactive strategy to enhance border security. Through an integrated, bi-national effort and operational discipline leveraging communities of interest, CBP sustains an environment in South Texas that deprives transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) the ability to exploit U.S. land, air, and sea routes.
In February 2015, the Joint Task Force West (JTF-W) was created and the South Texas Campaign officially became the South Texas Corridor (STC).
