Operationally managed as one precinct, these UIP’s account for a R9 million operational budget for 2016/2017 financial year and include 70 large erven of commercial and residential usage (over 3000 individually rated properties); cover 10 kilometres of public roads, servitudes and promenade, and represent a combined municipal valuation of approximately R10 billion.
In terms of municipal by laws, dogs on beaches must be leashed at all times and no dogs are allowed within 500m of a swimming beach.
In uMhlanga Rocks, this means that leashed dogs are permitted along the whole promenade as well as on the beach from the Hawaan Servitude in the north to the uMhlanga Lagoon and from the Pier south towards Durban View Park.
Dogs ARE NOT permitted on the beach between the pier and the Hawaan servitude. Local signage on the promenade will guide you.
Dog waste facilities are conveniently located along the Promenade – please make use of them and clean up after your dogs.
Drinking fountains (with dog troughs) can be found along the promenade
uMhlanga Rocks is so named for its Ecca sandstone rocks, formed into outcrops, shelves and rock pools full of sea-life.
Please help us protect this natural asset by treading carefully through the rock pools, and if you are fishing, make use of the fishing waste bags and bins conveniently located along the Promenade.
