Within this somewhat unassuming building holds a rich heritage, both architecturally and culturally. Built in 1898 by an important Pensacola businessman named Christian Thiesen, this structure is a wonderful example of turn-of-the-century commercial architecture. Besides this building, Thiesen is most well known in Pensacola for building the city’s first high-rise building on the northeast corner of Palafox and Romana streets in 1901.The two story brick building at the corner of South Baylen and Intendencia has an important, interesting past. Built in 1898, by Christian Thiesen, it first housed a cigar factory and an oyster wholesale business.
